Bishop John Carroll Cathedral School follows the curriculum guidelines developed by the Archdiocesan Department of Catholic Schools. Suggested Learner Outcomes as developed by the Oklahoma State Department of Education have been cross-referenced throughout the Archdiocesan guides.

Middle School Electives

• To give students ownership and responsibility for what they would like to explore.

• There are two different elective lengths, Semester-Long and Year-Long.
• In a school year they will have a total of five elective classes; two Fall Semester, two Spring Semester, and one Year-Long elective.
  • A semester course meets twice a week (Tuesday and Thursday), and a year-long course meets once a week (Friday).
• At any one time a student will be enrolled in two Semester-Long electives and their Year-Long elective.
• A few courses are specifically designed to last for a year, some classes are designed to be semester only, and some can fit both lengths.
• How we schedule those will depend on how many students sign up, and how many sections we can offer.
• All 6th Graders and New Students will be enrolled in Study Skills for the first semester. Academic performance will allow students to choose another elective in the Spring semester.
• Some students, depending on prior academic achievement, will be placed in a Study Skills class.

Course Information

• Students always have to be enrolled in a Fine Art (Music, Art, or Performing Art)
• Other areas of emphasis will be in STEM, Technology, and Academic Skills.
• Many classes will be capped at 12 students.
• Some classes can accommodate as many students as sign up. (Study Skills, Choir, Theater)
• Grades will be taken for academic work, participation, and completion of assignments.
• Some courses may require extracurricular commitments or fees. Please do not let money stand in the way of choosing a course.
• Some courses build on other courses so please take note of prerequisites.
• Electives will take place the last two classes of the day on Tuesday and Thursday and the last class of the day on Friday.
